Teddy Bears Fly as Kimmel Wins ACHA Debut

November 5, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tucson Ariz.- University of Arizona Wildcat Hockey defeated Grand Canyon University in a shootout on Friday night 2-1. Wildcats rookie goaltender, Rhett Kimmel, stood tall in his ACHA debut to pick up the win for the Cats. Matthew Marquis scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal early in the first period which ended up being the only regulation goal for Arizona. Rhett Kimmel made 22 saves on 23 shots and stopped 5 of the 8 shots he faced in the shootout. Max Meyer, Mathew Hohl, John Shivley, and George Orfanos all scored the shootout.

When asked about his first start as a Wildcat, Rhett Kimmel, said “It feels good to get this one under the belt, I couldn’t have asked for a better start. We know as soon as we leave we got business to do tomorrow.”

The Wildcats will be back home tomorrow, Saturday night, at 7:30pm to take on the same Grand Canyon University. Tomorrow, the Cats will wear camo jerseys for Military Appreciation night and will welcome the 42nd Electronic Combat Squadron to the TCC with Lieutenant Colonel William Grey dropping the ceremonial puck.

The Wildcats will be on the road next weekend, November 12-13th, to take on the University of Colorado, but will return home on November 20th to play Oregon in the first Paws and Pucks game of the season. Dog tickets will be available for purchase for $5 with all proceeds going directly to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. This is the first time in team history the Wildcats will play to Oregon Ducks in what should be an exciting game.
