Athens, OH Arizona fell to the #1 team in the nation 4-0 Saturday night at Ohio University. "We had some chances as the game went on, but costly penalties, and defensive zone breakdowns did us in," stated head coach Sean Hogan.
Penalties put the Wildcats down 2-0 early as Ohio was able to capitalize on two power play opportunities and take a 3-0 lead into the locker room after one period of play. The Wildcats however played the #1 team in the nation even for the final two periods until Ohio capitalized again on the power play with 7:34 left in the game.
Arizona threatened the net several times with opportunities that rang of the post but could not slip anything past Bobcat net minder Fedor Dushkin who posted the shut out win.
The game was not without fireworks as Arizona’s David Rizk and Ohio’s Jonathan Pietramala were both ejected and given game disqualifications for fighting with less than a minute remaining. Both will be suspended for their next games.
“It wasn’t what we wanted to happen after a pretty competitive and fiery weekend, but the referees handled it well and both teams will move on,” said Sean Hogan when asked post game about the fighting majors.
Ohio went 3-6 on the power play while Arizona posted a 0-5.
Steven Sisler started in net for the fifth straight game for Arizona and made 37 saves.
