Tucson, AZ The Wildcat Hockey program is pleased to announce the 2013-2014 season schedule. “I think it is important to schedule the toughest of competition and I think we accomplished that with our schedule this year. Last season our schedule ranked as the third most difficult in the ACHA and in our opinion this season’s schedule will again be one of the tougher schedules in the nation,” commented head coach Sean Hogan. “For us to have success we need to play the elite teams and we have scheduled accordingly.”
The Wildcats will play 25 of 40 games against ACHA Division I teams that qualified for the National Tournament in 2012-2013. Arizona will open on the road against intra state rival Northern Arizona University on Friday and Saturday, September 27th and 28th. The Wildcats will be on the road for the first four weeks of the season before they open up the home schedule against NAU on Friday October 25th. On Saturday October 26th the Wildcats will take on the 2012 ACHA National Champion University of Delaware. Highlights of the home schedule include Iowa State and Oklahoma University as well as ACHA powerhouses Minot State, and Liberty University. Arizona will host York University on Friday January 3rd and Saturday January 4th. York is a member of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), the Canadian equivalent of NCAA Division I and should present a tough challenge for the Wildcats.
Arizona is part of a conference (Western Collegiate Hockey League), under the auspices of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, for the first time since the Wildcats were an affiliate member of the Central States Collegiate Hockey League in the 1996-1997 season. Arizona has played as an independent since the 1997-1998 season. The WCHL includes Arizona, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Central Oklahoma, Colorado and Colorado State.
The Wildcats will again play host to archrival Arizona State for four games. The first series will be played Friday and Saturday December 6th and 7th. The second series will conclude the home schedule on Friday and Saturday February 21st and 22nd. There are also two Thursday night games on the home schedule as well. The Wildcats will play host to the University of Colorado on Thursday October 31st and Oklahoma on Thursday January 9th.
2013-2014 Ticket information will be made available shortly at www.arizonawildcathockey.org. All home games are played at the Tucson Convention Center and start at 7:30 pm.
