After defeating #7 Ohio University on Thursday night, the Wildcats were able to salvage a split against Midland University over the weekend. After dropping the first game 4-2 on Friday night, the Wildcats bounced back strong Saturday with a dominant 5-1 victory.

“After an emotional win against Ohio on Thursday night I was very concerned with how we would respond the next night,” said Coach Berman. “We got off to a quick 2-0 lead then just kind of deflated from there, getting away from our game. Give Midland credit, they stuck to it and found a way. They are a very well coached team. We don’t have any superstars really, but we have great pieces and when you put all the pieces together we can be a very difficult team to play against. I think we saw both examples between Friday and Saturday, and the results reflect that. I was proud of how we responded, especially since we were on our third game in three days and Midland was only on game two. Hopefully we have learned this lesson for the last time and will continue improving like we have all season.”

After Friday night’s flat performance Coach Berman shuffled up the lines and it paid immediate dividends. Robbie Wilkinson, Toppie Hogan, and John Hogan reunited and clicked right from the time the puck dropped. That line scored three of the five even strength goals, while also adding a power play goal.

The Wildcats power play has struggled most of the season but showed signs of life against Midland, finishing three for twelve on the weekend (25%), giving the team a much needed boost.

Going into Saturday night’s game Coach Berman challenged the captains and they responded marvelously.

“This was a major game for our team and a must win, said team captain,” Dylan Carter.  “Our team was ready to go right from the start and played a full 60 minutes. It was nice to see our offensive production breakout and get a convincing win for our fans.”

The Wildcats were able to win two of the three games over the weekend as they continue to show they are a program on the rise.

The Wildcats will hit the road for a long stretch starting in Tempe next weekend, as they take on rivals Arizona State. Friday’s game will start at 7:20 pm and Saturday’s game has been moved to 3:20 pm. Both games will take place at Oceanside Arena.
