Weekend Preview: Colorado St./Colorado

Match Up:

The Wildcats (8-12-4) are coming off a tough weekend against their rival, Arizona State, after being swept 4-2 (EN) and 4-1. This weekend they will head to the Rocky Mountains to take on #24 Colorado State Thursday and #8 Colorado Friday and Saturday.

The #24 Colorado State Rams (8-20-3) are coming off a weekend where they split their home series vs Mercyhurst. On Thursday night they won in convincing fashion defeating Mercyhurst 5-1 only to follow the next night with a 5-4 loss in a shootout.

The #8 University of Colorado Buffaloes are coming off a weekend where they beat Mercyhurst 4-0 and had the rest of the weekend off. The previous weekend they swept #9 Oklahoma in dominating fashion 6-0 and then returned the next night to win 5-4 in a shootout.

 

Scouting #15 ARIZONA (8-12-4):

Arizona is lead up front by junior forward Toppie Hogan with 14 points (8-6-14) in 22 games. Following Toppie is junior forward Alex O’Dea (3-9-12), John Hogan (3-7-10) sophomore defensemen Matthew Armenti (2-7-9). Between the pipes, the wildcat goaltenders basically have split time between Austin Wilson (2.74 GAA, .925 SV%) and Garrett Patrick (3.02 GAA, .908 SV%).

 

Scouting #24 COLORADO STATE (8-20-3):

COLORADO STATE is lead up front by Nicholas O’Donnell with 27 points (9-18-27) in 24 games. Following O’Donnell is William Neff with 27 points (5-22-27) in 31 games. Leading the workload for the Rams between the pipes is Dax Deadrick (3.54 GAA, .889 SV%).

 

Scouting #8 COLORADO (22-6-2):

COLORADO has one of the most elite top lines in the country with Matt Anders (16-21-37), Jake Bauer (12-22-34), and Chris Burkemper (13-13-26). Burkemper, considered one of the top all-around players in the ACHA has managed his production in only 22 games played, meaning each guy on their top line has averaged over a point per game. Carrying the load between the pipes this season for the Buffaloes has been Colin Champine (2.05 GAA, .934 SV%).

  • #14 Luke Carter, playing for the University of Colorado, is the younger brother of Wildcats captain, Dylan Carter.

 

  • There are only two weeks left in the ranking period. The top 17 teams qualify for the National Tournament in Chicago, IL March 3-8, 2016. The Wildcats are currently ranked 15th in the country and are hoping to return to the National Tournament for the first time since the 2013-2014 season!
