The University of Arizona Hockey program continues to add top-end talent to its recruiting class for the up-coming 2016/17 season. The Wildcats are excited to announce the newest addition, Robert Smythe, an elite Right Winger from Round Lake Beach, IL.

Smythe played in the OJHL (Ontario Junior Hockey League) for the Trenton Golden Eagles. During his time with the Eagles, Smythe tallied 27 points (8- 19-27) in 45 games. Trenton is considered to be one of the premier programs in the OJHL.

I am excited for the opportunity to continue my education at U of A," said Robert Smythe. "I look forward to building on the success the hockey program has had the last couple of years and being a part of bringing a National Championship to Tucson.

Standing at 6’1” 190 lbs., Smythe is a power-forward who brings a lot of speed and tenacity to go along with a blistering shot.

While the Wildcats made big strides last season--winning their first National Tournament game in 13 years--its no secret they lacked offense at times.

“ I have been recruiting Robert for 2 years now, so I am thrilled to finally say that he will be a Wildcat,” said Coach Berman. “Robert brings exactly what our team needs; he has big-time play making ability can take over a game at any time. The addition of Robert gives us a true top-end talent, allowing us to slot some of our other guys into roles that better suit their game. If he puts in the work, he has a real good chance of going to Kazakhstan to compete in the 2017 World University Games, representing his country and the University of Arizona.”
