The Wildcats are proud to announce their newest commitment, Trey Kerns; a big/strong defensemen from Peoria, Arizona.

Kerns comes to the Wildcats as a transfer from NCAA DIII Becker College, located in Leicester, MA. Before his time at Becker, Kerns played his junior career in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) with: New York Apple Core, Vermont Lumberjacks, and the New Jersey Jr. Titans.

“Being an Arizona kid made U of A an exciting option for me,” said Trey Kerns. “After visiting the campus and meeting with coach Berman I knew it was the school for me. I'm excited to be apart of the Tucson community and look forward to being apart of a National Championship team.”

Standing at 6’2”, 210lbs, Kerns adds some size and depth to the back end. His game can best be described as an all-around defensemen with tremendous up side.

“I can’t wait to go to work on Trey’s game,” said Coach Berman. “I am a really big on stick-on puck defending; taking away time and space. The more I watched Trey on film the more that showed up. He has a really good feel for his gap control and moves his feet well on the offensive blue line to create his shooting lanes. We loose four defensemen after this season, so this sets us up really well moving forward too.”

“Part of our approach this summer has been to increase competition for jobs. We only lost one defensemen from last seasons’ roster, so Trey is going to have to come in and take a job. He is very well aware of the task at hand and up for the challenge. I like it when guys are persistent for an opportunity and hungry to prove themselves. That’s part of pushing our culture to a championship level. Guys are going to have to earn their playing time every day.”
