Wildcat Hockey is excited to announce they have named their new Director of North American Scouting: Jeremy Goltz.

Goltz was a towering defensemen for the Wildcats from 1990-94 who possessed a rare blend of size and skill. After his playing days he  Immediately joined on the Wildcat coaching staff as assistant coach for the 6 seasons before being named Head Coach of Arizona State University’s ACHA Division 1 team; where he was name the 2010 ACHA Coach of the Year.

With 20 years of hockey coaching experience, Goltz continues to stay around the game as the Director of Hockey Operations with the Mission Arizona Hockey. A program that continues with its strong tradition today.

“I’m really excited about it,” Goltz said. “I’ve modeled a lot of what we do at Mission after my college experience. I feel like the scouting and my work with the Mission kids will go hand-in-hand.”

Goltz has already made an impact on the roster, as he was responsible for introducing Mission Arizona hockey Alum, Manny Rowe and Trey Kerns, as well as recent goaltending commit, Anthony Ciurro.

“I am very excited to get to work with Goltzy,” said coach Berman. “He has a lot of experience in this game and I hope to learn as much as possible from him. It was a no-brainier to add him to the staff, he is a guy who has played here, coached here, and really understands the quality of kid we want to add to our organization. I think he is going to make a major impact beyond the recruits he can attract to Tucson. This is another great sign of our program continuing to grow to new heights; we are committed to making the Wildcat hockey the elite program in the ACHA”

The addition of Jeremy Goltz is another example of coach Berman’s commitment to bringing Wildcat Hockey Alumni back to the program. Goltz will join a staff that already has Shane Fausel ( Alumni President/Goalie coach) and John Hogan (assistant coach), and he hopes to continue with this tradition.

“We have a very proud tradition of excellence here,” said coach Berman. “We want to continue to build upon that tradition by bringing in the success from the past to fuel the future ahead. We are one big family here, which is why we continue with the credo, ‘Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat.’ Having the entire history of this program propelling things forward really creates a special culture. One day we are going to win a National Championship here, and when we do, having the footprint of so many players of the past involved only adds to that special experience.”

“He played in the ECHL and was a big, tough and skilled Defenseman,” said Shane Fausel (UA Alumni President/Goalie Coach)” He played position very well and was/is a constant student of the gam; always wanting to know more. If you were a Goalie he was the one you wanted in front of you. If you were a team mate he was the one you wanted beside you, and as a Coach you wanted 20 of him. He has gone on to form his own Travel Hockey Program with multiple teams at each level from Squirt to Midget. Goltzy is a throwback to how Hockey players were and he continues to Coach teaching future generations how to work hard while maintaining the utmost respect for the game.”
