FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TEMPE, Ariz. – University of Arizona Wildcat Hockey completed its eight game 2018-19 season sweep of archrival Arizona State, on Sunday afternoon, with a hard-fought 5-3 victory.

The Wildcats now await their final ranking and seeding for the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Tournament, which runs March 21-26 in Frisco (Dallas area), Texas. The tournament seeding announcement is expected in this next week.

“This season-long sweep of ASU caps an amazing year for Arizona Hockey,” Head Coach Chad Berman said. “Thirty-one wins, another Cactus Cup Championship, and our first WCHL championship -- Now we can finally get the practice time on the ice we need to prepare for the national tournament. This is a great time for Arizona Hockey.”

Scoring for Arizona was Dawson Marshall, brother Bayley Marshall, Chris Westlund, Ben Jones, and Keelan Ulnick. The intensity of the rivalry boiled over into a parade of players to the penalty box. ASU even enjoyed a rare six on three power play late in the game, but was thwarted again and again by an inspired Wildcat defensive effort.

#8 Arizona ends its regular season with a 31-7 mark, while ASU finishes at 7-29-3.

Arizona last won a national championship in hockey in 1985.
