Tucson, Ariz – The American Collegiate Hockey Association awarded two national Community Service Awards to Arizona Wildcat Hockey for the 2018-19 season. The award is presented “for outstanding charitable volunteerism and charitable fundraising.”

The Wildcats took home the ACHA Men’s Division 1 Community Service Award and the ACHA Overall Community Service award for all three ACHA Men’s Divisions and two Women’s Divisions. The honors were announced at the ACHA Hall of Fame & Coach of the Year Banquet in Naples, Florida this past Friday night.

Wildcat Hockey is constantly visible in Tucson visiting hospitals and schools, and raises thousands of dollars for charity projects each season. This past season Arizona dedicated game nights to The Arizona Cancer Center, The Humane Society of Southern Arizona, Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports, Ronald McDonald House, and other charitable organizations.

“Service to our community is not just talk at Arizona Hockey,” Head Coach Chad Berman said. “We work hard each season to teach our players that good citizens must give back to your city, to your university, to your own neighborhood. These awards mean as much to us as winning any game.”

The awards cap one of the most successful seasons for Arizona Hockey in a generation. Arizona ended the 2018-19 season with a 31-8 mark, while capturing the Cactus Cup versus Arizona State for a second consecutive year, and the Western Collegiate Hockey League Championship for the first time.

Arizona was also a perfect 8-0 vs ASU for 2018-19.

Wildcat Captain Anthony Cusanelli was named to Team USA during the season, and Arizona forward Bayley Marshall was a finalist for 2018-19 ACHA Player Of The Year.

    Arizona Hockey last won the ACHA Community Service Award in  2017, and won the national championship in hockey in 1985.
