The Wildcats are proud announce their 3rd commitment and 2nd forward to the 2019/20 recruiting class with the addition of power forward, Josh Lusby.

Lusby, standing at 6’0” 200-pounds comes from Bemidji, Minnesota where he played  for the prestigious Bemidji Lumberjacks high school hockey program and was named assistant captain.

Lusby’s journey took an interesting route due to several unfortunate injuries while playing for the Bismarck Bobcats (NAHL) and the La Crosse Freeze (NA3HL). Due to frustration of his situation Lusby decided to take a new path in life and  joined the NCAA D2 baseball team at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, where he played catcher and center field. Soon after, Lusby decided it was time to return to his true passion - hockey.

“I chose the University of Arizona because I want to win," said Josh Lusby. "I’m an extremely competitive individual. Over the past few years Coach Berman has built a winning culture both on and off the ice and it’s something I wanted to be a part of. I’m hoping to come in and help bring a National Championship to Wildcat hockey.”

Lusby is a very powerful skater who plays physical  and loves to shoot the puck. In addition, he possesses an elite level of athleticism after playing a high level of baseball and hockey.

His rare skill set was too much for coach Berman to pass on.

“I really think we found a diamond in the rough with Josh,” said coach Berman. “He’s the definition of a high-risk, high-reward type of player with unlimited potential. I was really impressed by his progress from the 2016/17 season to his 2017/18 season, especially when you consider all of the adversity he’s faced. It would be easy to look at his stat sheet and dismiss him, but when I went back and watched his progress from year-to-year, I saw a kid who clearly has put in the work and can be as good as he wants.”

“ We had a lot of speed and skill on last year’s team but the National Tournament showed me we needed to be better in the tough areas of the ice. Josh thrives in these areas: he is good in the trenches, plays physical, loves to shoot and has sneaky playmaking abilities. I think he will be the perfect compliment to the championship core we have returning and I couldn’t be more excited for our group."
