#9 Arizona Wins Comeback Thriller vs. GCU 6-5

 January 25, 2020

Tucson Ariz.- University of Arizona Wildcat Hockey won a comeback thriller in overtime on Saturday afternoon to earn a season sweep of Grand Canyon University. Grand Canyon’s offense came out strong putting up 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Cats stayed strong and were able to make it a 1 goal game after the first period. The Cats were down by 2 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd period when newly added Wildcat, Josh Lusby, scored his second of the game followed by a quick game-tying goal by captain, Anthony Cusanelli. Forward, Bayley Marshall, scored the overtime winner on the third shot in overtime. Wildcats goaltender, Anthony Ciurro, earned his 12th win of the season to improve his record to 12-1-1.

When asked about the overtime goal head coach, Chad Berman, said “Bayley Marshall wants to be the hero, he is a guy that likes to play in the big moments. He made a good play and was able to bury the puck when it mattered.”

The Wildcats hit the road for the next two weeks to play a total of 5 games vs. Colorado State, Colorado (2), and the University of Las Vegas-Nevada (2). All three Colorado games will be Western Collegiate Hockey League (WCHL) games. The Cats are currently in 1st place in the WCHL standing and are looking to remain in that position heading into the last home series vs. Arizona State.

The Cats will be back at home vs. Arizona State on February 28th and 29th for the last games of the season. The Cats are currently down 2 wins in the Cactus Cup, but they have opportunity to regain the trophy for a 3rd straight year with 2 wins during the weekend. Be sure to join the Cats on the 28th for the annual whiteout where the Cats will auction off the white jerseys and the 29th for senior night.
