To no surprise of his peers, Matthew Hohl, from Fenton, MO., had a breakout season. As a Sophomore, Hohl was able to quarterback the number one power play on a top-ten team and command top minutes as the teams number one defensemen.

Hohl is known as an incredibly smooth skater with advanced vision and natural offensive instincts. He has a unique ability to use his long reach to take away time and space, causing the opposition to turn pucks over. Once the puck is on his stick he's able to play to his strengths, advancing pucks quickly in transition and making the players around him better.

Hohl came to the Wildcats along with his longtime defensive partner, Ben Jones, after losing a heartbreaker in overtime during the NA3HL National Championship game with the St. Louis Jr. Blues.

Moving forward, Hohl will without a doubt will play a pivotal role in  building on the current success of the Wildcat hockey program.

“I am really proud of the strides Hohl has taken,” said Coach Berman. “just watching him skate is entertaining – he's as smooth as silk. To move the way he does, at 6’3,” is really impressive. It was only a matter of time before he became the elite player we knew he could become. We challenged him during last year’s exit meetings to put in the work and earn top-pair minutes. Clearly, he has taken that opportunity seriously and made the most of it. I truly believe we haven’t even scratched the surface of how good he can be. We are incredibly lucky to have him on our side and I look forward to watching his continual growth as a person, player and leader in our program.”
