The Wildcats are excited to announce their 5th member of the 2020/21 recruiting class with the addition of mobile defensemen, Riley McCauley!
McCauley, standing at 6’2” 180 pounds is from South Portland, Main and comes to the Wildcats after playing for Brewster Academy the past two seasons. During the 2018/19 season he was teammates with current Wildcat defensemen Harry Canconnon.
“The University of Arizona offers everything I have been looking for in a college," said Riley McCauley. "The business school (Eller College of Management) is top notch while also being a part of the Nationally ranked hockey program. I can’t wait to get to campus and help bring a National Championship to Tucson.”
McCauley comes from a family with a very strong hockey background. His dad, Wes McCauley, is a well-known NHL referee and played college hockey at Michigan State. He eventually went on to be an 8th round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings and played 4 years of professional hockey in the ECHL, IHL, and COHL, including two years in Milano Italy. Additionally, His sister Emma currently plays hockey for the Gunnery Prep, a prestigious private school in Washington, Connecticut.
Riley brings good mobility, long reach, and a big frame that will fill out over time. His versatility provides another weapon to compliment the Wildcats already impressive defensive core.
“We are really excited to add Riley to our defensive group,” said coach Berman. “He checks all the essential boxes we look for on the back end with his mobility and puck movement. I see a really raw skill set that will continue to grow with strength training and experience. it’s easy to like the player he is now, but it’s the player I think he can become that excites me the most. I am confident he has the attitude and work ethic to realize that potential.”
