Wildcats Edge out 2-1 Shootout Victory over Utah

Tucson Ariz.- University of Arizona Wildcat Hockey defeated the University of Utah 2-1 in a shootout on Friday afternoon to bring their record to 5-5-0. Goaltender, Anthony Ciurro, picked up his third victory of the season stopping 31 of 32 shots faced and all three shots in the shootout. The lone regulation Wildcat goal was scored by rookie forward, Will Josephson, with 5 minutes left in the 1st period. Wildcat senior, Greg Malafronte, was the only player to score in the shootout to give Arizona the victory.

When asked about the team performance on Friday afternoon Wildcat goalie, Anthony Ciurro, said “We kept it simple, I think that was the biggest thing. We kept it simple and we just played our game.”

The Wildcats will be back at home tomorrow at 1pm to take on the same Skating Utes. Tomorrow is the annual school kid’s day, and the Cats will have a meet the team event following the game in the North Plaza of the TCC. The Wildcats offer a range of food promotions and family oriented meals for the 1pm games with chicken strips/mini corndogs with fries for $5, mac and three cheese box with a Pepsi/Coors Light for $6, and a cookie or brownie for $3.

Following Saturday’s 1pm game vs. the University of Utah, the Cats will be back on home ice November 5th and 6th to take on Grand Canyon University. Both games are set for 7:30pm starts with Friday, November 5th, being the annual Teddy Bear Toss event. Saturday, November 6th, the Wildcats will wear the camo jerseys for Military Appreciation night.
