December 3, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tucson Ariz.- University of Arizona Wildcat Hockey defeated Arizona State University 4-1 on Friday night in front of a rowdy crowd at the Tucson Arena. Wildcats forward, Jesse Lowell, stood tall picking 2 goals and 1 assist in the win. Wildcats goaltender, Anthony Ciurro, picked up the victory stopping 27 of 28 shots. There were plenty of penalty minutes to go around for each team with a total of 71 minutes combined, it safe to say the Arizona vs. Arizona State hockey rivalry has been reignited.
When asked about the game Assistant Captain, Jesse Lowell, said “That was a good game for us, we want to build off of it take it into tomorrow.”
The Cats will be back in action tomorrow night to take on the same Arizona State Sun Devils. The Wildcats now hold a 2-1 series lead in the Cactus Cup series and need two more wins to win it for a fourth consecutive year. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm, and during the first intermission the Wildcats will honor Wildcat great, Jeremy Goltz, by retiring the number 21 jersey. Goltz holds the record for most goals scored by a Wildcat defenseman (36), and is third in points by a defenseman (98) in team history.
The Wildcats will head in the holiday break following the series vs. Arizona State, but will return home on January 7th and 8th to take on the Minot State Beavers. Minot State will come into Arizona as a top 5 team in the country and the runner up in the 2020 National Championship.
