Wildcat's Add Speed with the Addition of Tyler Shetland!

By UA Hockey, 05/24/22, 12:00PM MDT

The Arizona Wildcats have been busy this recruiting season - having already added a defenseman and a goaltender - so it’s only fitting that they follow it up with a quick forward, Tyler Shetland.

Tyler Shetland, standing at 5’8”, 160-pounds, comes from Laguna Hills, CA and comes as a transfer student from Trine University (NCAA DIII). Before his time at Trine, Shetland played his junior hockey for the New Mexico Cyclones (NCDC) and even played youth hockey with current Wildcat defensemen, Ryan Fischer, while on the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U AAA.

“I am super excited to be a part of the program,” said Tyler Shetland. “I chose the University of Arizona for the opportunity to play college and compete for a national championship while getting a great education in warm weather.”

Shetland comes to the Wildcats as the second player in recent years to transfer from Trine University (NCAA DIII), including recent graduating forward and alternate captain, Alex Johanson.

Tyler is a versatile forward who can play center or wing and brings a lot of speed and energy, something coach Berman highly sought after.

“We had a plan to attack this summer with very specific needs,” said coach Berman. “We wanted to get faster as a team and you won’t find them much quicker than Shetland. He plays with the kind of competitive bite that I love too; he is not giving up space out there. We can use him up and down the lineup and in many different situations. This is a kid we are going to rely on for energy and being a pest on our opponents. We like to play a fast, transition style of game. If you are going to have an identity like that you had better have the players who can play that kind of game.  We are excited to say we got a bit quicker today.”
