Lions Roster Boasts NHL Draft Pick, Four Professionals

Match Up: The Wildcats will play host to a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) school when York University comes to town on Friday and Saturday night, face off is scheduled for 7:30 pm at the Tucson Convention Center. The CIS is the Canadian equivalent to the NCAA and York plays in the highest division of the CIS, roughly equivalent to NCAA Division I hockey. York is located in Toronto, ONT and the Lions roster boasts at least four players with professional hockey experience, including as high as the American Hockey League, regarded by some as the second best hockey league in the world.

Scouting York University (8-7-0): The Lions come into the weekend having not played since November 30th, a 5-3 loss to the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Jesse Messier leads all Lion scorers with 17 points. Keep an eye on defenseman John De Gray, a third round pick in the 2006 NHL Draft by Anaheim.

Scouting Arizona: Arizona starts off the new year with a four game losing streak, dropping two games against #1 ASU and two against #4 Iowa State University. However, the Wildcats finished the first semester with several big wins under their belts and if the National Tournament started today Arizona would be in for the first time since 2005-2006. Upfront, Andrew Murmes has been leading the pack with 30 points on 15 goals and 15 assists. The Wildcats will look to have Ansel Ivens-Anderson back in the fold this semester after losing plenty of time to injury last semester. In net, freshman Garrett Patrick has played 11 games posting a 3.52 GAA and a .890 save percentage.
