The Wildcats have taken their first step in rebuilding their defensive core with the addition of Fenton, Missouri native, Matthew Hohl.

Hohl, standing at 6’3”and 175–pounds, had a very successful season with the St. Louis Blues (NA3HL). The Blues, Coached by Chris Flaugher (2015-16 Manager of the Year), put together a tremendous run this season only to come up short in overtime of the National Tournament; loosing to the Metro Jets 3-2. Throughout the National Tournament, Hohl and his long time defensive partner, Ben Jones, went the entire tournament without giving up a goal.

“I am very excited to join the University of Arizona’s winning tradition! I want to be a part a program where I will have the opportunity to compete for a National Championship, while representing my school, along with getting a high quality education.”

During his time with the Blues, Hohl had a very decorated season as he was named to the NA3HL Prospects Team. In addition, he was selected by the Flint Firebirds in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft in the 11th round (204th overall).

“Adding a player like Hohl checks all the boxes of what we are looking for in our program,” said Coach Berman. “Matthew is a great kid with a strong work ethic and wants to be a part of something special. What excites me the most is his potential for greatness. He moves the puck well, makes good decisions, and competes at a high level.  As a younger kid, we have some work to do in the weight room, once he fills that big frame out he has all the tools to be a top-caliber defensemen in this league.”
